Residence Permit
Foreigners who will stay in Turkey for longer than the period granted by the visa exemption or for more than ninety days must obtain a residence permit.
The residence permit loses its validity if it is not used within six months.
Residence permit application
Residence permit application is made by making an appointment at e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr by selecting the Migration Administration tab in the province or district of residence. It can also be made by the person or the authorised intermediary institution on the day and time of the appointment.
Residence permit extension
From sixty days before the expiry of the residence permit and in any case before the expiry of the residence permit, it is made by making an appointment at e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr by selecting the Migration Administration tab in the province or district of residence.
Types of residence permit
Short-term residence permit
Those who will come for scientific research
Those who have immovable property in Turkey
Those who will establish commercial contacts or business
Participate in in-service training programmes
Those who will come for education or similar purposes within the framework of agreements to which the Republic of Turkey is a party or student exchange programmes
They will stay for tourism purposes
Those who will receive treatment provided that they do not have one of the diseases considered as a threat to public health Those who need to stay in Turkey depending on the request or decision of judicial or administrative authorities
Those who change from family residence permit to short-term residence permit
Participate in Turkish language learning courses
Participate in training, research, internships and courses in Turkey through public institutions
Those who have completed their higher education in Turkey and who apply within six months from the date of graduation
Those who do not work in Turkey but will make investments in the scope and amount to be determined by the President of the Republic, and their foreign spouses, their and their spouses' minor or dependent foreign children
Citizens of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
They can apply for a short-term residence permit.

Student residence permit
A student residence permit shall be granted to foreigners who will study for associate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate degrees at a higher education institution in Turkey.
Foreigners who will receive primary and secondary education, the care and expenses of which are undertaken by a real or legal person, may be granted and extended a student residence permit for one year periods during their education with the consent of their parents or legal representatives.
The student residence permit does not provide any right to the student's parents and other relatives to obtain a residence permit.
If the duration of study is shorter than one year, the duration of the student residence permit cannot exceed the duration of study.
All international students in Turkey are required to obtain a student residence permit for the duration of their studies. In accordance with the new decision of the Directorate of Migration Management, students will submit their residence permit application documents to the International Student Office.
Family residence permit
Supporting: (Turkish Citizen spouse and son or daughter over 18 years of age with a family residence permit, son or daughter over 18 years of age with a residence permit)
In their requests, the following conditions are sought from the sponsor
Having a monthly income not less than one-third of the minimum wage per family member, with a total income not less than the minimum wage
According to the population of the family, having housing conditions in accordance with general health and safety standards and having health insurance covering all family members
To certify with a criminal record that he/she has not been convicted of any offence against family order within five years as of the date of application
Staying in Turkey with a residence permit for at least one year
Being registered in the address registration system

Long Term Residence Permit Required Documents
To have stayed in Turkey with a residence permit for at least eight years without interruption
Not having received social assistance in the last three years
Having a sufficient and regular source of income to provide for himself/herself or his/her family, if any
Have valid health insurance
Not to pose a threat to public order or public safety
Refugee, conditional refugee and subsidiary protection status holders, humanitarian residence permit holders and persons under temporary protection are not entitled to long-term residence permits.
Humanitarian residence permit
In the following cases, humanitarian residence permits may be issued and extended by the governorships without seeking the conditions for the issuance of other residence permits, provided that they are limited to the periods determined by the Ministry and with the approval of the Directorate General
When the best interests of the child are at stake
When foreigners cannot be removed from Turkey or it is not deemed reasonable or possible for them to leave Turkey despite a deportation order or a ban on their entry into Turkey c)
Article 55 does not provide for the expulsion of the foreigner
When 53rd, 72nd and 77th articles are applied for judicial remedy against the actions taken according to these articles
during the continuation of the procedures for the return of the applicant to the first country of asylum or to a safe third country
Foreigners who need to be allowed to enter and stay in Turkey for urgent reasons or for the protection of national interests, public order and public security, when it is not possible to obtain one of the other residence permits due to their circumstances that constitute an obstacle to the issuance of a residence permit
In extraordinary circumstances
Foreigners who are granted a humanitarian residence permit are obliged to register in the address registration system within twenty working days at the latest from the date of issuance of the permit.
The humanitarian residence permit shall be cancelled and shall not be extended, provided that the approval of the Ministry is obtained, when the conditions that necessitated the issuance of the permit cease to exist.
Residence permit for victims of human trafficking
Foreigners who are or may be victims of trafficking in human beings shall be granted a residence permit for a period of thirty days to enable them to recover from their experiences and to decide whether to cooperate with the authorities.
These residence permits shall not be subject to the conditions for the issuance of other residence permits.
Residence permits issued for the purpose of allowing time for recovery and reflection may be extended for a maximum period of six months due to the safety, health or special circumstances of the victim.
However, these periods may in no case exceed a total of three years.
In cases where it is determined that foreigners who are or may be victims of trafficking in human beings have re-established ties with the perpetrators of the crime on their own initiative, their residence permits shall be cancelled.

Diplomatic and consular officers in Turkey
The families of diplomatic and consular officers serving in Turkey, as notified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Those working in the representative offices of international organisations in Turkey and whose status is determined by agreements
Those who are exempted from residence permit by agreements to which the Republic of Turkey is a party.
These foreigners are obliged to apply for a residence permit within ten days at the latest, if they will continue to stay in Turkey after the expiry of their residence permit exemption status.
Transitions between residence permits
Foreigners may apply for a residence permit in accordance with the new purpose of stay in case the grounds for the issuance of the residence permit expire or a different ground arises.
Interruption of residence
Except for education and health reasons, stays outside Turkey exceeding a total of six months in a year or exceeding a total of one year in the last five years shall be considered as interruption in residence.
In the residence permit applications of those who have interruption in their residence period or in their transition to another residence permit, the previous permit periods are not taken into account. (In the calculation of uninterrupted residence permit periods, half of the student residence permits and all of the other residence permits are counted.
